Picture this: it’s a sunny Sunday morning and you’re strolling through Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill, a lush green space surrounded by rolling hills and a serene lake, where dozens of vendors have set up shop for the day. A cool breeze picks up the scent of blooming cherry blossoms, daffodils, and seasoned fries fresh out of Home Frite’s fryer. This is Smorgasburg and if you didn’t get a chance to visit New York City’s staple outdoor food market in years past, you’re in for a real treat (or 100 of them, if you visit every single vendor at the market).
Smorgasburg first launched in 2011 as a division of the hugely-successful Brooklyn Flea. While the Flea focuses on tightly-cured artisanal and vintage clothing, collectibles, artwork and crafts from local vendors, Smorgasburg is solely dedicated to food and drink — 100 handpicked local vendors, to be specific. The market runs year-round, located indoors at Industry City in the winter and at the Williamsburg waterfront and Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill during warmer months.
Having relocated from its former home in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Smorgasburg is now conveniently located minutes away from the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. Just in time for the kickoff of our spring seasonal activities, you can now indulge in as many Dough donuts and Red Hook Lobster Pound lobster rolls as you’d like and work it all off at Lakeside. We’re welcoming spring with our fleet of pedal boats, kayaks, bikes and surreys, and of course, our staple roller skating rink.
April 3rd marked the first Sunday Smorgasburg of the spring/summer season, with the weekly market running outdoors through October 23rd. This year’s vendor highlights include all-natural frozen treats by People’s Pops, Keizo Shimamoto’s ever-popular Ramen Burger, classic BBQ by Mighty Quinn’s and so much more.
